As a holder of an F1 Visa, you can enter Mexico with the document. When you have a valid US F1, F2, M1, or M2 visa can enter Mexico without requiring a Mexican visa. As I have mentioned before, the validity period of your F1 is very important if you must stay and leave the country without having any issues. This document must be valid during your entire stay in the country.
If your US F1 visa is valid but is in an old/expired passport, you must bring your old passport along with the new passport. You must present both passports to the airline staff and border officials.
Having an expired document while still staying in the country is a risk. This is why I always advise my clients to always ensure that their documents do not expire while staying in the country. If for some reason you find yourself wanting to travel back to the US and you’re yet to spend up to 30 days while your visa has expired, you can always use the US automatic revalidation while you’re still in Mexico.
